A Tryst with Team Work

2010 …. A Year to remember for many reasons…. An individual can remember it for their own reason and World may forever remember it for global reasons… from Micro to Macro …. But as the Micro gets embedded in Macro … Here I am writing something from a Macro perspective!

Two most important reasons for this year to be called an exceptional year is …. Economic Upturn and Sporting Extravaganza …!

2008-09 was one very saddening year after 1929-1930, from where the global economy finally rose upon its feet … slowly … after many corrections in global exchange … share markets … the most scientific and prominent symbols of modern economy … are now on a rise (few exceptions will always be there … leaving scope for further improvements) … returning from such a gripping slowdown …. It will continue to show some after effects .. like rise in Inflation. But ultimately this inflation too will come to a halt at manageable level .. all economists and financial analysts are working hard for an improved economy for future for the entire globe.

Second Reason …. Sports … And this year … World Sport … where almost all countries … come together in one or two games … all the way from powerful USA to mighty Ghana …. From most peaceful countries like Switzerland and Japan to Rogue states like Iraq and Afganisthan …

World Cup Hockey, Cricket, Football, Lawn Tennis, Commonwealth Games ….

Apart from few … like singles Lawn Tennis …. All sports require team work … and from this team work someone rises to a meteoric level …

Football … a purely team sports … no room for individual game … although individual brilliance indeed help for the common cause but it can never be a substitute for team efforts … and FIFA 2010 will always be remembered for team efforts instead of individual brilliance in the annals of football history.

If players are brilliant … then they will surely rise but they must always remember that it’s the team that helped them to rise to that level … no football player can score right from one post to another… he needs someone’s support for a successful header or a shot …

Brazil, Argentina, England, Italy … the team with too much of individual brilliance … eventually treated football as an individual sport and played it in similar manner and ultimately their team was out … as opposed to Ghana, Netherlands, Germany … they are also having those brilliant footballers … but they matched their resonance at the team level … and thus helped in forming a balanced winning team added by some extra energy by those brilliant players … Sneijder of Oranje Army … Klose of Rampant German Brigade .. are just examples … they are brilliant .. but for the brilliance they needed support of their team mates … and they did in unison … and they are through …

Ghana also outperformed so many teams … some expert termed them as “Underdogs” … but if they are in Top 32 .. then certainly they are there because of their game and they proved … a young … full energetic Ghana team with no so called Meteoric players … but they played with full team spirit … and that’s what a viewer wishes for.. either viewing live … or via “virtual reality” - “Television” …

From semi-final stage … no one can predict who will be the top 2 and ultimately Champion … who ever will prove the definition of “Team” practically during those 90 plus added minutes .. will emerge as a champion …

But certainly … FIFA 2010 is a big - big lesson for topguns … and reminds us a very simple lesson … stick to basics … Players have to play like a Team Player if they wish to see their names in the list of the Champions.
