Do We Need More Reforms … !!! … ?

Most of the debate on the Indian Economic Reforms has centered on what the government needs to do. Little attention has been paid to what Indian Industry and Business need to do to respond successfully to the reforms.

When ever Indian Economic condition come into mind, we always think and say that Indian Economy needs some more reforms. We give so many examples that even after 2 decade of Indian Economy Liberalization, many areas are still untouched and this untouchability is the main reason of not so better rise of Indian Economy.

We compare India with USA, Germany, Japan, and to even our neighbor, China. We argue that because of all round reforms, they are rising so fast.

To some extent, this thinking is correct, but we forgot to analyze that they are rising not because of maximum number of reforms, although due to Sustainable Reforms and their Implementation.

Reform is a word which gives us a freedom to improve the system without going against it. But here, in our country, definitely reforms are in place but the most requisite thing, Freedom, is not easily accessible to everyone.

In 1969, when then Indian government was trying to introduce the draconian act, MRTP Act, Respected J.R.D.Tata said to a member of parliament “ I am convinced that a prime cause of the Inefficiency and High Cost prevailing in most public enterprises does not lie in the Quality, Competence, or Dedication of their management and staff, but in the continuing denial to them the Degree of Managerial Freedom of Action essential to the Efficient Management of any large undertaking.”

His words are 100% true even after 40 years.

For rise of economy, we do not need more and more reforms but we have to look into how can Indian Business Community respond to them.

For an example, Telecommunication sector liberalized way back, and this a best example of reforms which touched almost every Indians. Why? Just because Indian Industry had taken this reform hand to hand , this Industry almost got a free hand, implemented an efficient management and thus this become a success story.

But Indian Industry failed to catch many other reforms, and they constitutes a large stock pile eating dusts in offices.

Take an example of Labor Sector. So many reforms are already in place. Labor law protecting the rights of labors but on the other hand, we also have to look whether it is affecting the Indian Industries in a negative manner?

A genuine case, when after long battle of almost 14 years, a company got the right to remove an employee who were caught sleeping during working hour !!! How can that company will increase it’s industrial output?

Gurgaon Honda Incident is open to all of us. That incident is a strong evident of some mismatch.

Now think, if a company do not have the right to remove an incompetent employee, how can we expect that Indian Industry will rise? And for whom this reform is?

Freedom is the foremost criteria to increasing the efficiency in industry. This freedom must not be unchecked but it must be there. Then only a sustainable reform can help in rise of Indian Economy.

Now a days, every industry is focusing on quality, and quality reforms are already there to help them. So why we need more reforms? First Indian Industry must have to respond successfully to reforms instead of thinking about quantity.

With the help of quality reforms, we can reduce the high cost and increase the efficiency. Then only Indian Economy will become as par with other developed country.

A Tryst with Team Work

2010 …. A Year to remember for many reasons…. An individual can remember it for their own reason and World may forever remember it for global reasons… from Micro to Macro …. But as the Micro gets embedded in Macro … Here I am writing something from a Macro perspective!

Two most important reasons for this year to be called an exceptional year is …. Economic Upturn and Sporting Extravaganza …!

2008-09 was one very saddening year after 1929-1930, from where the global economy finally rose upon its feet … slowly … after many corrections in global exchange … share markets … the most scientific and prominent symbols of modern economy … are now on a rise (few exceptions will always be there … leaving scope for further improvements) … returning from such a gripping slowdown …. It will continue to show some after effects .. like rise in Inflation. But ultimately this inflation too will come to a halt at manageable level .. all economists and financial analysts are working hard for an improved economy for future for the entire globe.

Second Reason …. Sports … And this year … World Sport … where almost all countries … come together in one or two games … all the way from powerful USA to mighty Ghana …. From most peaceful countries like Switzerland and Japan to Rogue states like Iraq and Afganisthan …

World Cup Hockey, Cricket, Football, Lawn Tennis, Commonwealth Games ….

Apart from few … like singles Lawn Tennis …. All sports require team work … and from this team work someone rises to a meteoric level …

Football … a purely team sports … no room for individual game … although individual brilliance indeed help for the common cause but it can never be a substitute for team efforts … and FIFA 2010 will always be remembered for team efforts instead of individual brilliance in the annals of football history.

If players are brilliant … then they will surely rise but they must always remember that it’s the team that helped them to rise to that level … no football player can score right from one post to another… he needs someone’s support for a successful header or a shot …

Brazil, Argentina, England, Italy … the team with too much of individual brilliance … eventually treated football as an individual sport and played it in similar manner and ultimately their team was out … as opposed to Ghana, Netherlands, Germany … they are also having those brilliant footballers … but they matched their resonance at the team level … and thus helped in forming a balanced winning team added by some extra energy by those brilliant players … Sneijder of Oranje Army … Klose of Rampant German Brigade .. are just examples … they are brilliant .. but for the brilliance they needed support of their team mates … and they did in unison … and they are through …

Ghana also outperformed so many teams … some expert termed them as “Underdogs” … but if they are in Top 32 .. then certainly they are there because of their game and they proved … a young … full energetic Ghana team with no so called Meteoric players … but they played with full team spirit … and that’s what a viewer wishes for.. either viewing live … or via “virtual reality” - “Television” …

From semi-final stage … no one can predict who will be the top 2 and ultimately Champion … who ever will prove the definition of “Team” practically during those 90 plus added minutes .. will emerge as a champion …

But certainly … FIFA 2010 is a big - big lesson for topguns … and reminds us a very simple lesson … stick to basics … Players have to play like a Team Player if they wish to see their names in the list of the Champions.

Sensibility... Need of Time

First of all let me clear the point. It’s not my capacity to say anything to anyone, whatever I am writing here is not meant to hurt any one, although they might feel, and if they are feeling like anything other than my intention, then I can just say that their line of thinking is too weak.

It’s long time since I am on Facebook. An invention of modern technology to the society, for the society.
Making new friends, networking, mingling, and the best use is, finding old friend.

Discussions, chatting and just updating about oneself are few activities through which any one can keep himself or herself busy.

But in due course, many time I come across some discussion which targets specific people and community, I am sorry to say, against muslims.

I do not know from where this hatred comes from… either they are biased or just letting their anger on this specific community because of impotency of some other people or party.. namely Indian Government.

Many people shaped my life till date.. leave apart my family… I like to mention 2 people from this community here and the 3rd,Ali, behind the curtain… Mujtaba Khalil(my ex room mate, for 3 and half months only)…. & Md Azharuddin( he is just a simple man.. my senior, but maximum 4 to 5 times face to face contact in 1 year)

Mujtaba Khalil… the first person I met… after leaving my home in aspiration of higher studies( still m doing) at Fiitjee Hostel, Munirka, South Delhi,…. He was senior to me.. . cool.. calm .. composed and a person with strong will.. crossing many hurdles… a person with clear thoughts and mission …too sharp in organic chemistry and physics… required for clearing IIT Jee … we were together for just about 4 months… eating.. studying and discussing so many things.. he always used to tell me that Shashank.. please write something whatever you study.. it will help..( I am very bad on writing) .. but still.. he left a profound effect upon me.. and I wonder .. where is he .. !!!( the same year.. he cleared JEE Exam and joined TS Chanakya.. after 3 year.. he called me up and then only I come to know that in little span of time.. he almost travelled every continent .. but no contact thereafter.. wishing him all the best.)

Md Azharuddin … my senior at Amity Business School…. But we hardly talked with each other… may be for 4 or 5 times… a genuine person … he knows about himself.. and that’s enough… nothing more nothing less… last day of college and he advised me a book… I do not know any other book had left a mark on me like this.. (after completing MBA in Finance, he joined Bank of Baroda and just joined Ranchi division… hope he will be in touch, atleast)

What I am writing all these things is not to just appease these people or community… but sometime.. we have to think on broader scale… If a particular group created some nuisance against us.. and if we say that we are intelligent enough.. then we must act against that group only na.. why we always include the whole community?... Unthinkable for me….

We say against hurriyat… we say against simi.. okie I agree they must be banned n the people associated with them must be jailed… but what about shiv sena?... the slow poision party?... but just because of shiv sena.. can we say anything against Hinduism.. definitely not.. because Hinduism is not shiv sena… just like that.. islam is not hurriyat or simi.. or a home made religion of some mad fatwa issuer…

Just few days back… some friends of mine on facebook.. was just uttering hate speech just in the tune with talibani leader… what difference remains?...

Many people says that Indian government always appease muslims by giving them reservation and so many other facilities… why the hell they never says against reservation of any kind to any community.. be it schedule caste or schedule tribe?.... because as per their thinking …. SC n ST … a part of Hinduism ..

There are some flaws in Indian government policies.. agree.. but even then do we have any right to say against a whole community?

I am not a political writer.. neither with BJP nor with Congress… but I wonder.. for how long we have to listen all these craps? ..

I request all the facebook user… okie .. it’s a public domain .. a public space to discuss so many things.. but atleast preserve this modern invention of gen-next from any kind of decade old and biased thinking .. let make this place .. a platform from where we can think about a unified world.

Meri Maa

What is the shortest word a child can say which gives all happiness, all trust, all belief and every care of the world… Maa… It’s a three letter word but if we pronounce it… it become just a single word… Maa..This word … Maa… is so powerful that even a newborn baby feel the power of it… is there any other example of such word? … NO

Nothing left to explain the hidden care and love in this word… this word give us a sense that where ever we are… we are not alone… Maa is always with us… what ever our demands are… Maa will fulfill it at any cost … actually we are selfish na… I am sorry.. atleast I am.. thats why I said .. she will fulfill all demands… is she is only for demands?.. what I can give to her?... I do not know… because there is nothing like that… which I can give to her…

She gives all love and affection… she never remember her problem … she awakes and quench the thirst of her child in midst of night… she do not eat until and unless her child do not complete his or her breakfast, lunch, dinner or whatever… and she do not buy any new cloth just because if she will.. then her child will have to manage with the old ones…

She always wish well being of her child… that’s why she worships… for her children… she visit temples.. mosque.. church… gurudwara… so that no one can harm her children… she prays to god… but she do not know… she had given most powerful shield to her children … which no one can provide… no god … no engineer… no scientist… no theorist can give a powerful shield like Maa… just simple Maa… can any one?... A BIG NO…

She do not wish any thing from her child… absolutely nothing.. her love and affection is pure and without any kind of return… even purest of water at gangotri is not as much pure as her love…

I am not with her for last many year… not with her in the sense … higher studies demands high… and for that reason .. am living in hostel for almost 7 years… so in last 7 years.. maximum of 4 to 5 month I spend with my mother .. ie.. at home … and only that 4 to 5 months had given enough energy … that why.. even after 7 years… I am still alive …

Many time I wonder… how many time I give a call to my mother … I call my friends almost daily for what ever reason .. but do I have time to call my maa… no… a silly reason .. I do not have time .. is that enough? And a valid reason?.. and this is an example of return from our side… I am sorry that in this I included others too..but we can’t deny that it’s story of many people around us… a return we give to Maa

How many times she really expected something … never… nothing… yeah she wished for my good health… my study so that I live my life happily… she is not well… but she never says that Mikku … I am not well.. always say…”tum kaise ho… thik se rehna… khub padhai karna”…. But when ever I ask.. Mummy .. aap kaisi ho…?.. medicine liya kya… aapki awaaz thik se nahin aa rehi hai.. sab thik to hai na… and same answer every time… arre main bilkul thik hun .. tum apna health per dhyan do.. “… but I know .. she is not well… and saying all these things so that I do not get disturb…

Few months ago… in May…. 8th may … mothers day… some so called nationalist may argue against this day … that marketers are promoting this day for their own use… but even then .. we have a reason to celebrate a day and dedicate a day to Maa… definitely it must be everyday till our breath lasts… In morning I called my mother and she was overwhelmed with joy.. that we remember … she was almost on verge of weeping so I quickly called off.. I can’t hear my mother weeping .. and she was weeping not because of I did something but just because she was so happy .. so happy.. that instead of words… tears were flowing out of her eye… mother’s promise… I was with Ali and bought few cards … on that card… just wished my Maa… happy Mother’s Day… and couriered it … after few days … she called me… she scolded me… and then told me that she is happy… happy … and very happy … that she received a card… she scolded me just because she thought that a card of 85rs is too much… I must not spend such amount of money on her… but she do not know that a glass of blue lime comes in 105 rs…

This is my story… even right now now I am feeling alone and hence I am remembering my mother and for the first time writing a note … dedicated only to her… this is the power of Maa…

I am really out of words… I can’t write more.

Have a happy life… Meri Maa.

A Day To Remember

What A Day Till Now !!! …. 06 – 08 -10

I wake up early morning, 7.18 Am … searched my mobile, as I have no wrist watch.. and in any case… mobile is now a multi utility machine… and used for communication as well as for many other purpose… and slowly it replaces wrist watch and paper weight… Nokia 3315 is a perfect example of Mobile + Paper Weight.

Any way… it was too early to start the day.. so I thought that it will be better if I give rest to our cubicle’s washroom for next 2 hour…

9. 28 Am… Brushing and flushing at same time as I was getting late… because so many jobs was to perform… as I was running late.. so no question of shower… I just put up dress.. my Bank passbook… pen drive… and I was also supposed to take calculator.. but.. my memory is too sharp… :) … !!! ….

10.04 Am…. Allahabad Bank… Amity University Campus… I was the first customer of the day… and only after filling the cash withdrawal form.. I come to know that I must have to wait for 40 min… as cashier was yet to come… 10.37 Am… It was enough for me…

Ok.. I have to take print out too… but from where.. P3 was closed.. Ok.. I will take printout from Atta Market…

11.05 Am.. Out of campus.. negotiating with Auto Driver.. Luckily.. In first chance… An auto driver ready to go in 40 Rs.. OK.. some one might say… 10 rs makes no difference… but … giving them extra money.. also makes no difference… and when everything is same.. then why not go for better option?...
so I was in auto… and my destination was Sector 18 Metro station but…

Atta market is a great place… I stopped near by a mobile store to finish some pending job… and only after 1 hour… my pending job was still pending… time runs at its own speed.. but it’s depends on our perception that some time it runs fast and some time slow… today… in my case.. time was running too fast… so I leaving behind the pending jobs… moved toward my destination…

Noida Metro Station… Sector 18… 12.10 Am… Sreedharan must be congratulated for giving delhi such a beautiful option to commute… rush was there.. but due to smart option provided by the metro corporation.. Smart Card.. no need to stand in such long queue of afternoon Friday rush… security check.. and am through to platform no 1… dwarka sector 9… metro train.. an exceptional in punctuality … just in 4 minute.. I boarded a metro to Canaught Place.

Delhi is a definitely a unique city… when ever I ride a metro.. I always find myself in a dilemma… I do not understand… whether Delhi is a pride of India… or … !!!... will not say.. because.. many people will take it as an offence.. but it’s true… Is it a shame? …

Ok.. finally at Canaught Place… 12.28 Pm… but… canaught place was not my final destination for today.. Patel Chowk… my destination.. using downstair… I was on platform no. 2… yellow line.. to patel chowk.. memories running in mind… fast …. Very fast… and metro arrived.. right on time… and again I was on a metro.. to next destination.. going towards a known place… but my stoppage was next to canaught place…

Finally.. at 12.41 Pm… out of Patel Chowk metro station.. delhi weather is just unpredictable… if I my guess is right.. then at that time.. it was near to 35 degree… ok.. so.. the most important job was still pending and I must finish it.. to take print out of admit card… a gentle man guided me to the printout shop.. 100 meter walk … then back…

1.08Pm… National Stock Exchange Building… Waiting area… still 25 minutes to go.. that means.. I was on time… sitting there.. looking on face… many peoples.. but it was mix… and I was the only one giving the exam of IAPM.. other wise.. everyone was for some thing else… ok… sitting there for 10 minutes… I was looking for something in my pocket.. and ohh ghosh… again… the same thing happened.. I left my calculator… oh.. I am so used to of that calculator and in built calculator is so boring.. any case.. there was an option.. and I was… because just befor e10 min of exam.. one boy came out of exam room and was sad.. because he just missed by .25 marks… but then a girl and a young man.. came out and were happy… so I was happy too.. will see what ever happen..

Just in time.. I heard my name and seat no. 25 was allotted to me.. when I was just about to take my seat… the previous candidate had left his or her window open.. and his or her marks was flashing on screen.. 37.25… oh.. means who ever he or she was.. very bad marks…

Thank god.. some one came and cleared that screen.. I was ready to take my seat.. online question appeared… up and down.. click … click… click… click… click… oh.. too many clicks.. that means.. attempting questions..

Oh… it’s not over yet… Instructor told me to sign on paper but only then I realized that my pen was running out of ink… … he annoyed… but said that in any case.. you must have to fill up this form.. no option other than to borrow a pen from my instructor … ha ha ha…

Ok… as per system time.. still 44 minutes to finish the exam… but I was not in mood to capture that seat for more time.. so I filled paper … checked my answer seat… come to know that total number of question I attempted is 56 out of 60… ok….

Submit… On screen.. info regarding my exam… no. of question attempted: 56… yet to attempt: 4…. Two option was on screen… Submit … Back….

Clicked Submit… A pause… blank screen … and then a flash… my result was out… NCFM INVESTMENT ANALYSIS & PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT MODULE… in fraction of seconds .. my eye read everything .. but first .. my eyes was on result.. and it was … PASS… marks… 83.75 out of 100…

I left my seat… searching for instructor… he collected my paper and given a printout… my result…. And I was Happy… but no expression was on face….

Come out of that high rise old government building… 1 sms(still waiting for a reply)… 4 call .. Bhai Ji.. Addy… Chebek… Nived…only bhai ji picked up phone and was too happy to hear that and congratulated … and back to patel chowk and then direct to Noida Sector 18… auto… again in first attempt… auto driver was ready in rs 40… sector 125… gate no. 4…. Direct to Allahabad bank… collected my money…. Best thing was.. no long queue… and return to hostel 7… room no. 406 D… my lappy was still on… and a message .. from my IT Maam… in capital letter… SHASHANK PLEASE MEET ME IN AFTERNOON… UR MAAM… hmm.. that means.. without taking anything.. I must have to rush to ABS… F3 Block… 4th Floor… and I was there..
4.48Pm.. and My Maam was not there.. was in meeting with some of most hated personality of our ABS… The Great CRC People… ok…

I must meet my Faculty Guide.. so in no time.. I was on 2nd floor… P.Ostwal.. I am a surprise visitor in any faculty cabin.. :) … so first she was surprised to see me there and the first statement from her… Shashank You are a very lazy student… will not disclose that meeting..warning… excuse… warning … :) … but any how I come out of happily.. I got few more days.. :)

Our body is an automatic machine but it also needs oiling.. and in search of that.. I was in F3 block cafeteria.. but as usual.. too busy to wrap up the cafeteria and also.. there was nothing to eat.. not even a single packet of chips…

Ok… again .. in Maam Cabin.. but many people were still waiting for maam inside her cabin.. so I preferred to wait in waiting area.. on a sofa… of.. what a relief.. even without a fan.. in few minutes.. Maam was there… she first get angry because as per her thinking.. I am getting weak day by day… ok.. to the point… I am supposed to work on a project.. or a two.. and positively have to report … on Monday… will do it.. :)

Back to D block… Pepsi and bread roll… calling Shankar.. out of campus… for Egg Paratha… sorry.. without any kind of pickle.. that partha was too good to eat.. so left it … returned back.. to room.. and something was waiting for…

Room no 406 D… keys in my hand… but still I was not able to unlock it.. do not know how door get jammed… 1st floor… warden handed me bundles of key… returned to room … I know my leg is too strong .. so just two kick.. and a bang … and I can see clearly inside my room .. :)…. On my chair… and then I realized that my lappy just just saved … the back of lock was lying next to my lappy.. as my lappy lid was open.. but it was ok.. just just by few centimeters.. thank god…

Switched on fan and I started writing this note… 6.50 Pm.. a ring … 9910480550…someone was calling from H Block cafeteria .. come as soon as possible.. they have something to give.. ok… and after 10 minutes.. my long lost diary was again in my hand… oh no.. some one.. who ever he or she was.. definitely from ABS… now knows much about me…

My system time showing 8.00 Pm.. still 4 hours to go.. to over.. is still something there for me?
